SFIS students to unveil mural on Jan. 25

Some talented fifth- and sixth-grade art students will present and dedicate two additional panels to a Spring-Ford Intermediate School mural at a special ceremony at 6 p.m. Jan. 25.

The students have been working with Artist-in-Residence Jessica Gorlin Liddell for the past month to complete two new panels for a mural that was started in 2009. The panels are tile mosaics that reflect the themes of growth and transition as they appear in nature and in the students' own lives.

The community is invited to participate in the dedication ceremony and view the artwork which is hanging in the school lobby. This mural is one of several that have been completed throughout the district. Other projects of a similar nature have been carried out at the 9th Grade Center, the 10-12 Center and Limerick Elementary School.

The Spring-Ford Intermediate School project was facilitated by art teacher Cheryl Kramer and Principal Ed Smith. This project is sponsored by The Home and School Association and is supported by the administration.

The Artist-in-Residence program is coordinated by Art's Alive!, a program that brings professional artists together with students and communities to produce permanent works of art. Robyn Burckhardt, Coordinator, is available through Robyn_Burckhardt@yahoo.com. Artists for multi-media projects are available to assist communities, businesses and schools in the area.

Spring-Ford Intermediate School is located at 833 S. Lewis Road, Royersford.
